Let’s do a small group exercise and find out what makes these micro-credentials not only unique, but highly effective in providing sustainable learning. Let’s form a few groups (six max per group). Here is the activity that we will do. In a round table, each participant will share one fact about our local sports teams (Chiefs, Royals, Sporting KC, or KC Current) that they think others may not know. If you share a fact that is not known in your group, you get points (one for each person who didn’t know the fact that you shared!). Let’s see who gets the most points!

So, we know who got the most points, but an even more subtle and important event took place while we were scoring points! In each group, the participants learned a few new facts without reading a book or browsing the internet! Now, imagine using a similar framework (with more proven science!) to learn a subject, like Mediation, or Conflict Resolution, or Leadership. Harnessing the power of peer group to learn is highly effective and efficient in the modern age. The content (WHAT) of a subject is easily accessible through internet search, but HOW to use that content in your specific situation now, needs to be thought through, discussed, reflected upon and then, executed with feedback. This is exactly what we do in these micro-credentials!
