A minor in business complements and bolsters any major degree program.

Accounting – Minor

The purpose of the Accounting minor is to provide students with an understanding of financial information and processes that can inform many business decisions. The minor prepares students to work with accounting professionals and therefore can be a valuable compliment to those that will work with administrators and decision-makers in any field. With flexibility in the accounting courses that may be selected, students can focus on how business transactions are recorded and evaluated, options regarding the determination of “cost” for various decisions, the role of internal controls in protecting an organization, or an understanding of various factors that affect taxes.

Business Administration – Minor

The purpose of the Business Administration minor is to provide students with a basic understanding of the business functions of accounting, economics, marketing, management and business law. Students will develop an appreciation for the role business plays within society. This minor is an excellent choice for those individuals who want a better understanding of how businesses operate especially if their profession involves working within corporations or non-profit organizations. For a minor in Business Administration, a minimum grade of “C” or better is required in all classes. This minor is available to all majors other than Accounting and Business.

SPECIAL NOTE: A student who successfully completes 21 hours of the proper course work with a 3.0 GPA or above in the minor of Business Administration may be eligible to waive up to 15 hours towards earning an MBA.

Finance – Minor

The purpose of the Finance minor is to provide students with an understanding of the financial markets and the financial management of corporations. Students will learn how the financial markets work and how to make sound investment and financial decisions for firms and individuals.

The minor prepares students to work with corporate finance professionals and investment professionals in the exciting and rewarding field. The minor is also a good preparation for young entrepreneurs to start their own business.

Economics – Minor

The purpose of the minor is to provide students with an understanding of how market economies work and whether public policies can improve market outcomes. Students will learn about how individual buyers and sellers make decisions, how these agents interact in markets and what determines the overall levels of economic activity and inflation. The minor provides students with analytical skills and background knowledge that could be useful when working in business, education, or government. A minimum grade of “C” or better is required in all classes. The Economics minor is not allowed for Accounting or Business majors.

Marketing – Minor

The purpose of the Marketing minor is to provide students with an understanding of how the Marketing function, using a customer focus, can be used to successfully sell goods, services and ideas. The minor prepares students to work with Marketing professionals and is therefore an excellent complimentary supplement to related major areas of study, such as Communication. In addition to a common core of business preparation courses, students take additional courses with a Marketing focus. For a minor in Marketing a minimum grade of “C” or better is required in all classes. The Marketing minor is not permitted for Business majors.
