The Master of Science in Psychology (MSP) program at Avila University will help you develop a deeper understanding of human behavior. Build a solid foundation in psychology through research, theory and practice. The degree is designed for students interested in preparing for doctoral programs in psychology as well as for students interested in pursuing careers in non-clinical settings.
The Avila Master of Science in Psychology program is ideal for anyone wanting a better understanding of the psychology of human beings. This degree is customizable for those working in the fields of education, law enforcement, human resources, business or the helping professions. Students get close personal support and mentoring through coursework, fieldwork, and research opportunities. MSP students also have the opportunity to work in research labs directly with faculty mentors who have published in the field.

Master of Science in Psychology tracks
Research — includes hands-on research to prepare students planning for advanced study in psychology. Students complete a master’s thesis with a faculty research mentor as the capstone.
Mental Health — enables students to better understand human behavior by studying the psychological science of typical and atypical behavior. The capstone for this track involves a project in the community to address issues related to mental health.
General Psychology — designed for students who desire maximum flexibility in their graduate psychology coursework.

The FAFSA should completed every year to determine what financial aid you may qualify for.
You are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after Jan. 1. However, the priority deadline to submit your FAFSA is March 1.
Students who apply to the Avila Master of Science in Psychology program are eligible to apply for scholarship opportunities.

Sirridge Counseling Psychology Scholarship
This scholarship has been established in honor of Dr. Stephen T. Sirridge’s more than 30 years of service as Professor of Psychology at Avila University. The scholarship will be granted to a student showing promise of professional excellence.
Amount Awarded: This non-renewable award is in the amount of $500 and will be credited directly to the recipient’s account.
Qualifications: The applicant must be a “Student in Good Standing” in Avila University’s MSCP Program. The student must have completed the Candidacy process with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Criteria for Selection: Academic achievement as shown by GPA.
Quality of essay. The student will complete a two-three page, double-spaced essay. The theme of this essay is the following: “Discuss several challenges facing practitioners in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders.”
Graduate assistantships may also be offered.
