(January 19, 2018) KANSAS CITY, MO – With traditional undergraduate classes starting this week, Avila University is seeing a 45% increase in transfer and first-year student enrollments for Spring 2018. This increase is largely attributed to the university’s move to a new, lower tuition model which includes the cost of books and campus fees.
“I earned my Associates degree a few years ago, and I recently decided to finish my undergraduate degree,” said Melissa Al A’Abed, international business and finance major. “Avila had just the right program for me. Then I heard about the lowered tuition, and it was the icing on the cake.”
The Avila Promise was introduced last September and students transferring to Avila now, like Al A’Abed, are the first to benefit. Transfer students enrolling this semester will receive Avila’s lower annual tuition price — $19,900 – which includes their books and campus fees. These students will also be guaranteed a research or internship opportunity while at Avila, regardless of their major. Students transferring in with 54 or fewer college credit hours will also be eligible to receive up to a $1,000 travel award in their junior or senior year.
“So many of my credits transferred, which was so great,” Al A’Abed said. “I entered Avila as a junior, and I’ll graduate with my double major in about two years.”
The full benefits of the Avila Promise will go into effect for full-time, traditional undergraduate, resident students enrolling fall 2018. But the impact of the Avila Promise seems to already be positively affecting enrollment numbers at the university. Undergraduate inquires to Avila are up, year-over-year, 15.5% while deposits are up 68%. Fall transfer applications are also up 13.99%.
In addition to Avila’s lower tuition, guaranteed research or internship opportunities and the travel award, the Avila Promise will also protect the student’s tuition from unexpected increases and fees, as well as guarantee their 4-year, on-time graduation.
