KANSAS CITY, MO – Avila University recently named John Roushkolb as Sports Information Director/Assistant Athletic Director, where he will oversee publicity for the University’s 14 athletics programs.
Roushkolb joins the Eagles Athletics staff with a robust history of overseeing digital marketing, media relations, event management, and web management at a number of universities. He recently served as the social media manager for Park University, overseeing impressive growth in multiple social media channels while also being recognized for their coverage of the 2014 NAIA National Volleyball Championship by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District 7.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Avila Eagles team and look forward to promoting the athletics excellence taking place at the University,” Roushkolb said. “When I visited the campus during my time at William Woods University I was impressed by the facilities and saw tremendous potential. I’m glad I’ll be able to bring my experience showcasing intercollegiate excellence to Avila now.”
During his tenure as Sports Information Director at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, he oversaw the promotional campaign for the 2013 Dr. Leroy Walker Champions of Character Award winner, the first from the American Midwest Conference. Additionally, Roushkolb oversaw game day operations and communications, highlighted by successfully hosting the 2012 AMC Cross Country Championship meet and numerous postseason sporting events.

Prior to his time at William Woods, Roushkolb worked with the sports information department at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) where he developed and executed a promotional campaign for a finalist for the 2008 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award which recognizes academic and athletic excellence.
Roushkolb will also serve as Assistant Athletics Director and will teach courses in the Sports Communications Concentration in the School of Visual & Communication Arts beginning in the fall 2019 semester. He is a native of Wichita, Kansas, graduating from Wichita State University with an undergraduate degree in marketing communication and subsequently earning his MBA in marketing from UMKC.
