Prior to Thanksgiving, Kansas City NBC affiliate KSHB 41 highlighted the work of Avila’s Feed Your Friends community pantry during their evening broadcast on Tuesday, November 24. Concentrating on the risk of food insecurity amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Lea Morven—graduate student and food pantry coordinator—explained to viewers how Feed Your Friends opened at a critical time. “There’s been an influx of people coming in – Students, staff, and faculty,” she said in the segment. “Though most people coming are students because they don’t have access to as much help and there are usually a lot of things weighing on them.” Since opening in March, Feed Your Friends has served more than 100 households with food, basic essentials and other household goods through November.
