Bryan DePoy possesses a rich and diverse background in higher education, marked by a range of roles held throughout his career. Currently serving as the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Avila University, he brings a wealth of experience to his current position.
Dr. DePoy is deeply engaged in the accreditation process and serves as a Team Chair and Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), as well as a Peer Evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). In recognition of his contributions to the development of peer corps members, Dr. DePoy was honored with the Mighty Mentor award from the HLC in 2021. Additionally, he holds a Higher Education Assessment Specialist Graduate Certificate from James Madison University.
Dr. DePoy has occupied several key administrative roles at various institutions, including serving as the provost at Lake Erie College, dean of Creative Arts & Communication at Youngstown State University, and Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives at Russell Sage College in Albany, NY. He also held dean and assistant dean roles in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana University. Throughout his administrative career, he has successfully helped new academic programs, forged strategic partnerships with educational institutions and industry leaders, and engaged in comprehensive strategic planning to drive institutional growth and innovation. Dr. DePoy’s academic journey began in the field of music, where he earned degrees from Indiana University (BM), the University of New Mexico (MM), and Florida State University (DM). He also served as a faculty member in music at Delta State University.
Beyond his institutional roles, Dr. DePoy is the owner of Waypoint Assessment and Accreditation Consulting, LLC, specializing in higher education assessment and accreditation consulting for colleges and universities. His expertise is recognized nationally, as evidenced by his presentations at national conferences such as the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education (AALHE) and the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Assessment Institute.
