Avila University has partnered with Global University Systems (GUS) Medical and Veterinary Schools to streamline the process for Avila graduates to enter the field of medicine. Through this partnership, eligible Avila Bachelor of Science graduates who meet specific GPA requirements can seamlessly transition into one of three university programs that best fits their needs.
Global University Systems schools include Saba University School of Medicine, Medical University of the Americas, and St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine and St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. All partnering schools are located in the Caribbean and have impressive United States Medical Licensing Examination pass rates and residency placements.
“Avila strives to provide Education Without Limits to its students, and this unique partnership is another way we are doing just that,” said Jim Burkee, PhD, president of Avila University. “This partnership will provide unparalleled opportunities for our students, and we could not be more pleased to offer this program. We believe that international learning opportunities provide our students with unique perspectives and educational experiences that may not otherwise be presented in traditional program opportunities.”
Gerald Wargo, Jr., GUS Medical & Veterinary Schools executive vice president for marketing and enrollment, also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “This partnership provides talented students with the opportunity to study medicine in the Caribbean and return to the U.S. and Canada for clinical training,” Wargo said. “We believe that partnerships of this nature will eventually advance healthcare excellence globally.”
Accepted students are poised to start on an enriching academic journey that prepares them for distinguished careers in healthcare. From foundational courses in anatomy and physiology to specialized training in clinical skills and patient care, students will receive a well-rounded training experience that prepares them for the challenges and responsibilities of medicine. Students will also benefit from a supportive learning environment where they can collaborate with peers, engage in research opportunities, and benefit from hands-on clinical experiences both locally and internationally.
Avila graduates accepted through this pathway will also have access to scholarships, including a $10,000 USD scholarship and the opportunity to secure up to $105,000 USD in additional scholarship funds.
