(October 25, 2017) KANSAS CITY, MO – The South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 7 at 11:00 a.m. for the Beak & Bean, a new coffee shop on the Avila University campus. and caters to faculty, staff, students and the surrounding community.
The Beak & Bean caters to faculty, staff, students and the surrounding community and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The coffee shop serves Mother Earth Coffee: brewed coffees, lattes, frappuccinos, cappuccinos, smoothies, as well as pastries and sandwiches. The Mother Earth brand is committed to supporting a culture of small family farms and strives to build a sustainable livelihood for its farmers, a concept that is uniquely aligned with the mission of the university.
Located on the upper level of Marian Center, the Beak & Bean was a gift from Great Western Dining, the dining and catering company that serves Avila. “You asked and we listened,” said Albert Macias, director of the Avila dining hall for Great Western Dining. Macias intends for the Beak & Bean to be “convenient and welcoming, the perfect place to take a study or work break.”
Paul Toler, vice president of finance for Avila said, “Avila has enjoyed an outstanding partnership with Great Western for many years. It was only natural to collaborate with them to create a coffee shop which has been the number one request of me since I came here two years ago.”
