PEACH
Peers Educating Avila about Counseling and Health

PEACH Leaders work collaboratively with the Health and Counseling Services staff to develop and present a variety of educational and social programs for the Avila community.  Students should be committed to improving campus life through these events with such topics as:

  • stress management
  • nutrition
  • healthy relationships
  • addictions
  • healthy lifestyles
  • other relevant topics

This is a great leadership opportunity in a team-shared approach.  PEACH Leaders have ongoing opportunities to develop leadership skills and there are expectations that all members will share in the development and implementation of programs and activities.

PEACH Leaders must….

  • Commit to attending regular meetings and training with the Health and Counseling Services staff
  • Be willing to learn about mental and physical health issues which can impact college students
  • Have the ability to communicate and collaborate with others
  • Be able to organize and complete tasks
  • Be willing to respond in a creative, open, enthusiastic manner when developing and implementing programs and activities

All Avila students are eligible to apply for a position with PEACH.  We are looking for students who are comfortable in a mentor-like role with other students and who have demonstrated leadership ability and follow through in their previous work in student organizations at Avila or other institutions.  We are also looking for PEACH Assistants who help with program implementation.

Here are examples of PEACH activities which occurred during the 2006-2007 academic year.  PEACH Leaders come up with ideas for activities, promote and then carry out events.

  1. “Butt Out” – Developed and carried out activities promoting awareness of the physical and
    psychological effects of smoking,
  2. “Stress Relief Week” – Sponsored fun stress relieving events before finals.
  3. “Swing Into Spring” – Handed out safe spring break giveaways and information to students
  4. “Wellness Day” -  Developed display and conducted water tasting test to raise awareness about
    the benefits of water
  5. “Slip Into Sleep” - Sponsored activities to educate about sleep during National Sleep Awareness Week.
  6. Late Night Breakfast – Sponsor “Make Your Own Stress Ball”
