The Department of Art + Design is grounded in a philosophy of developing a strong foundation of skills in drawing, composition, color theory, two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, and art history. These core art classes (taken by all art majors) help students establish the visual, conceptual and technical skills essential for success in a professional art career.
Exceptional faculty is a hallmark of an Avila education. All Art + Design faculty are working professionals with experience as educators, designers and studio artists.
A low faculty-to-student ration (average class size of 12) means that students receive individualized instruction and have a one-on-one relationship with the faculty.
The Art + Design facilities include a Macintosh design lab, drawing/design/painting studios, photograph darkroom and ceramic studio.
