Academic Progress Policy

Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards

The Federal Government sets minimum standards with which each student must meet in order to receive Federal financial aid. However, each school may then set higher standards for their students. All financial aid programs offered to Avila students, with the exception of Avila Scholarships, are subject to the same progress standards. Scholarship programs carry a stricter standard as described in a separate policy.

To continue to receive financial aid, a student must continue to achieve satisfactory academic progress according to the hours attempted each year. This will differ for the full-time and part-time students. Academic progress standards apply to all aid applicants, whether or not aid was received in prior semesters.

Please note that although you meet the following academic progress guidelines, your eligibility for a Stafford Student Loan may be affected if you do not advance a class level.

You must maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the enrollment status for which aid was calculated.

ACADEMIC YEAR

(Fall and Spring: progress will be checked after Spring grades are posted.)

Undergraduate Students

Full-time enrollment: To be considered full-time, you must carry at least 12 credit hours per semester. If you pass 20 hours per academic year, your progress is considered satisfactory.

3/4-time enrollment: Financial aid is computed as 3/4-time if you are carrying 9-11 credit hours per semester. Your progress is considered satisfactory if you pass 15 credit hours per year.

1/2 –time enrollment: 6-8 hours per semester is considered to be half-time enrollment. You must pass 10 credit hours per year to maintain satisfactory progress as a half-time student.

Graduate Students

Full-time enrollment: To be considered full-time, you must carry at least 6 graduate-level (500 and above) credit hours per semester. If you pass 12 hours per academic year, your progress is considered satisfactory.
