Click on a question to view the answer.

Must I apply for Missouri Certification before I apply for Kansas Certification?
Yes. When you apply to Kansas, you are applying for a Conditional License which requires a valid, out-of-state license.
How do I apply for a Kansas License?
You download the first 7 pages of the initial out-of-state application for Kansas from the following web site: www.ksde.org/Default.aspx?tabid=153. Bring form 2A to your Certification appointment. Request fingerprint cards from the same site. Follow the 8 steps that are listed on page 2 of the initial out-of-state application.
Do I have to attach my Missouri Certificate to my Kansas application?
No. Form 2A which Avila’s Certification Officer fill outs, verifies that you have completed an approved, accredited program.
How soon during the semester may I apply for certification?
Student Teaching grades must be posted. If you are an undergraduate, your degree must be posted.
What do I have to do in order to get certified?
» Complete all course work.
» Have a Bachelor’s Degree
» Graduate Students: Send an Official Transcript from all other colleges attended,
except Avila, to the Certification Officer.
If you hold a Missouri temporary or provisional certificate, you only have to send transcripts of courses that have been completed since you applied for the temporary or provisional certificate.
» Undergraduate students: Need not send official transcripts from other
    colleges attended.
» Have an official copy of your Praxis test with a passing score on file with the
Certification Officer. (If applying for a Kansas Certificate concurrently, need a
passing score on the Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam.)
» Make an appointment with the Certification Officer.
» Bring $7.00 for each Avila transcript that you need
(a check or correct change is required).
How long before I received my certificate?
It takes at least 6 Weeks for processing; and then, the certificate will be sent directly to you.
Is there anyway I can check on the status of my application once it has been
sent to DESE?
You can log on to https://k12apps.dese.mo.gov/webapps/certsearch/tc_search1.asp Then, you type your last name and your social security number. You will then get a screen which will tell you the status of your application. For example: Information Received In Process. It will also tell you if there is a problem. For example: Background Check Needed
