EARN EXTRA CASH While Participating in the Neurofeedback Study

The Department of Psychology’s Neurofeedback Research Team, under the supervision of Dr. Marcia Pasqualini, is now recruiting paid participants aged 18 - 49 years for an international study looking at the effects of neurofeedback on cognition and mood. Neurofeedback (also called EEG biofeedback) is a completely non-invasive technique whereby people learn to control their mental state with the use of a feedback system that measures the electrical activity of the brain.

For participants who are selected, a baseline assessment will take place before the Christmas break. The ten-session training program will begin after the break in January, followed by post-testing. Participants will be paid $80 upon completion of the post-testing.

If you are interested in participating, please send an e-mail with your name to our lab at neuro.psychology@avila.edu, and we will email you further information and a Participant Information Form. Sending us an e-mail will NOT OBLIGATE you to participate, nor will it guarantee your acceptance into the study.

This Could Be You . . .

BEFORE
AFTER

How many times have you been told to not distract yourself while driving? Yet you still continue to drive with distractions. But are you aware of the dangers associated with distractions on the road?

"Nearly 6,000 people were killed and half a million injured last year in U.S. auto accidents due to being distracted." (The Straits Times)

Twenty-one percent of teenagers each year are victims of fatal automobile accidents due to cell phone usage. Studies have shown that texting and driving is becoming just as dangerous as drinking and driving in terms of inhibiting your driving abilities.

You can also view The Talon's special issue on texting while driving by clicking here.

Parking Alert

Campus Safety has been asked by the Kanas City police department to remind everyone who parks on city streets to pay attention to the No Parking Zones that surround campus. Primarily, this refers to the area that begins to the extreme South end of Oak Street (at the end of the tree line) continuing around Santa Fe Trail around the Zarda Complex.

Vehicles parked in a No Parking Zone are subject to a city citation and towing at the vehicle owner's expense.

If you have questions, please e-mail campussafety@avila.edu for more information.

6:50 p.m.  Carols sung and campus Christmas light ceremony outside.

7:00 p.m. Crafts for the kids and a special visit from Santa along with snacks and cocoa in Marian Center.

Commuter students and Avila Advantage know that you and your children are welcome. If you plan to attend, please e-mail me so that we are sure to have enough for all the kids at David.armstrong@avila.edu.  An R.S.V.P. is not necessary, just helpful. So, don’t stay away, even if you decide to come at the last minute.  Friends are also welcome.
