The Biology Department is located in O'Rielly Hall. The building houses three biology laboratories, chemistry and physics facilities, and lecture rooms. Equipment includes state-of-the-art microscopes, surgical stereomicroscopes, PCR thermocyclers, protein and nucleic acid electrophoresis equipment, incubators, an autoclave, a culture hood, an epifluorescence microscope, videomicroscopes, water baths, and incubators. Biology students have access to chemistry and physics equipment including neurophysiology equipment, HPLC, and spectrophotometric apparatuses. The first phase of a renovation project has just been completed. New ventilation systems, chemistry laboratories, and common areas for students are feature of this initial phase.
Career Services
Avila's Career Services office is located in the Hodes Hall 707-709. The Center helps to provide students with the means to thrive in their chosen careers upon leaving Avila. The Center houses references dealing with graduate program, job availability, help in preparing resumes, finding internships, etc. Visiting this office early in your college experience is a good idea. The director is Gina Frigault (ext. 3676) and she will be an invaluable resource to biology students.
