Moses Artis, Program Director
Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVAMC)
Class of 2009
Moses Artis has an ambitious plan for the future—Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Counseling Psychology and Business Administration; take the state licensing exam for psychometricians; and serve society.
Moses says that drive comes from the commitment he and his wife have made to raising their six children, and his desire to serve.
“It’s like having three full-time jobs—family, work, education. But Avila’s accommodating course scheduling allows me to make adjustments, so that I can fulfill my dreams and my children’s future.”
A retired Marine, Moses currently manages veteran accounts for a Veterans Administration rehabilitation program at Kansas City VA Medical Center. He’s being groomed to assume supervisory responsibilities.
“I was encouraged to “step-up;” and so both my supervisors recommended Avila Advantage as offering the program that would best prepare me to take over their position. They are even going over my classwork with me.”
Moses says Avila’s undergraduate Psychology and Business Administration programs are grooming him well for greater responsibilities.
“I know of few programs that bring real experiences into the classroom—even those of the students—as effectively as do the Advantage instructors. They are great at incorporating students’ real work experiences into an amazing classroom experience.”
Through Avila Advantage, Moses says he’s achieving his dream of becoming a counseling psychologist, and of benefitting society.
“My dual degrees from Avila are helping me toward state-certification as a psychological examiner; and working in-house at the VA as a vocational rehabilitation psychologist, I’ll be saving taxpayers money.”
